It’s hard to believe that this time next week, it’ll be 2024; where has the year gone? Have I said a version of this at every year’s end since 2020? Maybe; but that doesn’t make it any less true. And from the sample size I’ve polled (aka my friends) it would seem I’m not alone.
All I really have to say is that I’m grateful to have made it round the sun another time, and I’m glad you have, too. Thank you for reading this, for welcoming me into your inbox each week.
Finally, as some may know, I have a weakness for British quiz shows; I’ll also take wisdom wherever I find it and this unlikely phrase, from the wrap-up of an episode of Richard Osman’s Festive House of Games and delivered with surprising gentleness, has stuck in my head since I watched it last week. “… if Christmas is a hard time for you, have a good one, have a peaceful one, but if you’ve got people around you as well, you have an absolute cracker…”
Peaceful, and with some good people about—I wish that for all of us in this new year.
Almost happy new year to the timeless us!
