On Friday we gathered to say goodbye to a bar; but not just any bar. It opened in early 2020, shortly before humanity launched into that very unexpected plot twist. When things started reopening, it became our own bubble, a hub where we met and drank and laughed and made friends. Good friends. That place and those friends got me through a lot. They continue to. She’ll reopen on the other side of town, and it will be the beginning of something new that I’m sure will be wonderful in its own right. But it won’t be down the road, an easy walk away.
On Friday as the space filled up and I saw people I see all the time and others I hadn’t seen in months and glasses clinked and friends bought each other drinks and we toasted all that we had come to mean to each other, the night was thick with memories. Here’s to Pauline’s Rooftop. And whatever comes next.
Hear! Hear!
