After last week’s smoke and dust, I had to go to Ranibari, the greenest, freshest public space I know in walking distance. Some tasty chana (aka chickpeas) topped with chopped raw onions and danya, accompanied by a mug of satisfying chiya from the simple on-site eatery, followed by a long stroll, all while taking deep breaths of clean air—and looking out for birds, of course.
I ended up following this grey-headed canary fly-catcher, a first for me (if I’m wrong on the identification, I trust one of you will let me know), for quite some time, as it went hopping and chirping through the foliage. Watching I felt thankful, as always, for this haven of nature in the middle of our busy city.
It was a breath of fresh air in more ways than one, and I especially love that last picture where the scrutiny seemed to be mutual.
