I’ve attended many weddings here in Nepal, but during the last few years it seems that everyone I know who was going to get married had done so, and I’d often only remember the astrologically auspicious period that makes up wedding season was in progress when flower-covered cars passed in the street. Along with the occasional horse-drawn carriage.
Today must be pretty auspicious, though—I attended a marriage in the morning and an engagement later in the day, and weddings were in progress in every party palace I passed travelling across the valley to get to them.
Here’s the lovely morning bride flanked by two of her friends, and I love how she had bespoke bangles made with her and her husband-to-be’s name on them!
And at the engagement…
Both events were so joyful and I felt very lucky to be witness to such a special day for people I care about.
Two celebrations in less than eight hours is more than a little exhausting, though, and I’m ready for my bed!
